The ‘Importance’ of Fitting In | Alika Dahnpitak | TEDxLANNA Intl School Youth

In this heartfelt and reflective talk, Alika challenges the pressure schools place on young people to fit in, arguing that education should nurture individuality rather than conformity. Through vivid personal memories of loneliness, self-doubt, and attempts to meet narrow expectations, she explores how school systems often reward sameness while overlooking different kinds of intelligence, creativity, and potential. She makes the case that students should not be defined by grades, popularity, or how well they match a social mould. Ultimately, she calls for schools to become places where students feel safe being fully themselves and learn to belong in their own skin. Alika Dahnpitak is a Year 11 student who joined Lanna International School in Year 8. She is highly active in the student-led public speaking programme, particularly in debate and MUN, and has frequently undertaken leadership roles.
