Meet the Generation17 Young Leaders: The Story of Soumya Dabriwal | Samsung

No girl's future should be limited by biology. That's the belief driving Generation17 Young Leader Soumya Dabriwal, whose organization, Baala, has reached more than 1.8 million women and girls.

After learning that girls were missing school because of period stigma, lack of health education and access to feminine hygiene products, Soumya set out to remove those barriers. Today, Baala advances women's health and rights by creating safe spaces where they can find accurate information, build confidence, and challenge long-held taboos.

Through workshops and a growing network of local leaders, Baala is empowering women and girls to become educators, advocates, and changemakers across India and beyond. The organization also works with men and boys to build more supportive communities.

Generation17 is an initiative in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) that aims to harness technology to elevate the voices of young leaders around the globe who are working to achieve the Global Goals. Established by the United Nations in 2015, the Global Goals—or Sustainable Development Goals—provide a framework to address pressing global challenges including poverty, inequality, climate change, and peace and justice, to build a better future for all by 2030.
