Hong Kong International Airport is one of Asia's major international aviation hubs and one of the world's most important cargo airports.

HKIA handled approximately 61 million passengers and 394,730 flight movements in 2025, with more than 5.07 million tonnes of cargo. It remained the world's busiest cargo airport in 2025.

The airport's Three-Runway System became fully operational in November 2024. Under the normal operating mode, the North Runway is primarily used for arrivals, the Centre Runway for departures, while the South Runway operates in mixed mode.

The Three-Runway System gives HKIA three parallel 3,800-metre runways and significantly increases the airport's capacity.

Under the normal operating configuration, the North Runway is primarily for arrivals, the Centre Runway is primarily for departures and the South Runway operates in mixed mode. Actual runway use changes according to wind, traffic and operational requirements.

Hong Kong is particularly famous for its dramatic approaches over the South China Sea and Lantau Island, together with the huge variety of wide-body aircraft passing through the airport.
