'Off the charts': World in 'extreme weather danger zone' with El Niño 'supersizing before our eyes'

Weather experts have issued a stark new warning about the threat a historic El Niño poses to the world.
The World Meteorological Organisation said the weather event developing in the Pacific was "off the charts" and "supersizing before our eyes".
This year's El Niño had already been predicted to be the biggest since records began, throwing an unprecedented amount of energy into the atmosphere and disrupting global weather patterns.
The UN weather agency now says its forecasts show a near 100% likelihood the phenomenon will persist through to February 2027 and will be the strongest in history.
