무거운 문이 닫히면, 그 법정은 시대의 모순이 응축된 거대한 사회가 됩니다.

어느 어두운 시대에나 권력을 쥔 자가 있고, 두려움에 순응하는 자가 있으며,
목숨을 걸고 저항하는 자가 있습니다.
총칼로 세워진 법대에 대한 무력감과 부조리한 권위 앞의 굴복은,
강도가 주인을 내쫓고 주인 행세를 하는 참담한 현실을 그대로 반영합니다.
불의와 폭력, 그리고 식민의 억압에서 비롯된 거짓된 질서는
우리가 마땅히 누려야 할 인간의 존엄을 짓밟는 요인들입니다.

이 영화를 통해 저는 그러한 시대적 폭력과 꺾이지 않는 저항의 정신을
법정이라는 밀폐된 공간에 투영하고, 조용하지만 단호하게 묻고 싶었습니다.
과연 누가 누구를 심판할 수 있는가?
그리고 어쩌면, 총칼로 무장한 제국의 법보다
상처 입은 열여덟 소녀의 목소리가 훨씬 더 거대하고 눈부시다는 것을 보여주고 싶었습니다.

The world we live in is often weighed down by oppression, unjust power, and forced silence.
In many ways, it resembles the cold, austere courtroom of 1919—a suffocating space where the truth is distorted by force, and the oppressor sits face-to-face with the oppressed.
Once the heavy doors close, the courtroom becomes a microcosm of a deeply distorted era.

In every dark chapter of history, there are those who wield stolen authority, those who conform out of fear, and those who fiercely defy at the cost of their lives.
The forced submission to an absurd legal system mirrors a tragic reality: a robber driving out the true master and claiming the house as their own.
Injustice, violence, and the false order born of colonization are the very forces that fracture human dignity.

Through this film, I wanted to project that historical violence and unyielding human spirit onto the confined space of a courtroom, to ask quietly but firmly:
Who truly has the right to judge whom?
And perhaps, to reveal that the voice of a wounded eighteen-year-old girl is far more colossal, and far more blinding, than the laws of an armed empire.
