Music is more than performance. It is connection, identity, belonging and joy.
In this Dean’s Exchange webinar, Professor Anna Reid, Dean and Head of School at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, is joined by musician, conductor and Moorambilla Voices founder Michelle Leonard OAM to explore the transformative power of music education and community.
Drawing on more than two decades of work with young people across regional and remote New South Wales, Michelle shares how Moorambilla Voices has grown into a nationally recognised program that connects children to music, culture and one another. Together, Anna and Michelle discuss creativity, connection, community leadership and why making music remains one of the most powerful expressions of our humanity.
Key topics:
- Why joy, connection and lifelong learning sit at the heart of making music
- The role of Country and culture in shaping artistic practice and education
- Building community through collaboration, creativity and collective achievement
- The impact of arts education in regional and remote Australia
