How do you test a warped brake rotor without an expensive dial indicator?! 🏍️🔧
If your motorcycle or car vigorously shakes and vibrates every time you pull the brake lever or press the pedal, you likely have a warped brake rotor! When heavy steel rotors undergo extreme heat cycles from hard braking, they can actually distort and bend out of shape. Mechanics call this "runout."
Normally, to test for this, a mechanic mounts a highly sensitive magnetic dial indicator to the suspension. But this DIY trick is absolutely brilliant! By simply zip-tying an Allen wrench directly to the stationary front fork and placing a bright light behind the gap, they created a perfectly fixed reference point. As the wheel spins, the gap of light instantly reveals exactly where the heavy steel rotor is bent!
