China-made cargo drone completes world-first cross-island flight in Oman

A China-made heavy-lift cargo drone has successfully completed a 200-kilometer cross-island delivery mission in Oman, marking the world’s first successful cross-island cargo transit by an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). Operating under extreme coastal conditions, the "Sagittarius" transport drone—featuring a maximum takeoff weight of nearly 500 kilograms—carried critical emergency medical supplies to the remote Khuriya Muriya Islands. Despite facing sustained level-10 gale-force winds along the route, the aircraft maintained exceptional flight stability, slashing what would typically be a ten-hour sea trip down to just 1.5 hours.

Designed to withstand extreme temperatures, sand, dust, and high salt spray, the system underwent extensive real-world testing in Xinjiang before deployment. Following the landmark flight, Chinese manufacturer Time Flying signed a bulk procurement agreement with Omani partners to transition the project into full-scale commercial implementation. Driven by the Belt and Road Initiative, the successful operation has sparked strong interest across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and the broader Gulf region, laying the groundwork for a scalable, smart low-altitude logistics network for remote supply delivery.
