US President Donald Trump says he expects to meet Kim Jong Un later this year as he seeks to revive a diplomatic quest from his first term to convince North Korea’s Supreme Leader to abandon his country’s nuclear weapons program.
President Trump has made a notable shift lately towards the Korean Peninsula as South Korea confirms its annual joint military drills with the US will be cut short following a request from Washington.
North Korea said it still sees the scaled-back military drills as a provocation and denied any contact between President Trump and Kim Jong Un.
