Countdown to the first total solar eclipse in nearly 30 years

The total solar eclipse will be the first visible from mainland Europe since 1999 - but some places have a better view than others.

The rare celestial event will see the moon pass directly between the Earth and the sun, briefly plunging some parts into darkness and creating a total solar eclipse for viewers in Greenland, Iceland and northern Spain.
