Imagination is where every great idea begins. Before something becomes an invention, a story, a piece of art, or a dream for the future, it first exists in someone’s mind.
“The Power of Imagination” explores how our ability to imagine can help us see possibilities beyond what already exists. As children, we naturally dream, create, and ask “What if?” But as we grow older, fear of failure, expectations, and the pressure to be realistic can sometimes make us stop imagining.
This speech invites us to rediscover that sense of curiosity and wonder. It explores how imagination can help us solve problems, create new ideas, understand different perspectives, and envision a better future.
Because imagination is not simply about dreaming of what could be—it is the first step toward making what seems impossible possible. Akein Randeniya is a young and enthusiastic student from St. Anthony’s College, Kandy, with a strong passion for public speaking and drama. He enjoys expressing ideas, performing on stage, and connecting with audiences through confident communication and storytelling.
His love for drama has given him an appreciation for creativity, character, and different perspectives, while public speaking has helped him develop his confidence and ability to communicate meaningful ideas.
Making his TEDx debut, Akein brings the fresh perspective and enthusiasm of a young speaker who is eager to learn, explore, and inspire. He hopes to use this opportunity to encourage others to step beyond their comfort zones, find their voice, and have the courage to share their ideas. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
