With infinite content right in our pockets, we should be the ultimate masters of our own choices, interests, and beliefs. But we aren't. That's because our everyday decisions are being hijacked by the algorithms of the 21'st century, designed to keep us watching irrelevant documentaries at 3:30 AM. In this witty and eye-opening talk, Rishi Joshi reveals how we unwittingly surrendered our autonomy to the algorithm. Exploring everything from 'Subway Surfers' attention spans to the dangerous erosion of human civilization and humanity itself, he breaks down the doom-scroll, the loss of cognitive ability and individualism, and how to reclaim our most essential human trait: the freedom to choose for ourselves. Rishi Joshi is a 16-year-old who takes a keen interest in conversations that challenge beliefs, bring people together, and create awareness or drive change. He actively participates in Model United Nations conferences, engages in interschool debates, and writes articles to express his ideas and perspectives. He thrives in public speaking and group discussion environments and strongly believes that meaningful conversations and ideas have the power to make a difference in people’s lives.
In addition to this, he frequently takes part in various interschool events and contributes on the organizing side of school initiatives, including JMUNC. He is also an active member of school clubs such as the CyberCrew and the MUN Club, where he continues to develop his skills and contribute effectively.
