How to trap light

U of T theoretical physicist Sajeev John pioneered the development of photonic crystals – structures that use repeating arrangements of matter to prevent certain wave lengths of light from escaping. By enabling the control of light at a microscopic level, photonic crystals are powering advancements in medicine, solar energy and optical computing.
