Listen, if the AI didn’t kill 50 people, you’re not allowed to complain about it. Calm down.
All these AI companies keep saying that the government needs to regulate them, it’s important. Things can get bad without it. But now, a confidential document was obtained by journalists that shows exactly what type of regulations they want.
Anthropic, the makers of Claude, state that they think the Commerce Department should only intervene in shutting down their AI if 50 people are at risk of being killed or seriously injured, and or causing a billion dollars in damages. BUT only if that’s through a biological weapon, a cyberattack, or they lost control of the model.
If it’s for any other reason, that’s not cause for a shutdown. If it’s still under their control and they’re putting lives at risk, that’s fair game because Anthropic has it under control.
