The Department of Energy’s National Laboratory of the Rockies built an autonomous AI system on Gemini Enterprise, cutting instrument calibration 8x to help accelerate materials discovery. Functional materials are critical for the future of advanced energy storage, power electronics, and quantum computing, but developing them requires bridging the gap between atomic-scale measurements and reliable devices. By implementing agentic workflows on the Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform, NLR reduced microscope calibration time from 90+ minutes to 13 minutes, cut manual focusing steps by 96%, and enabled 12+ hours of automated testing after hours.
