2026년 백남준 서거 20주년을 맞이하여 인공지능과 첨단기술이 일상이 된 오늘날, 그의 작품과 예술적 유산을 다시 살펴보고, 그것이 동시대 예술에 남긴 의미를 함께 되짚어봅니다. 백남준은 비디오와 통신기술 등 당대의 새로운 기술 매체를 적극적으로 수용하며 예술의 형식과 표현 영역을 넓히고 기술과 인간, 사회의 관계에 대한 새로운 시각을 제시했습니다.
본 세션에서는 서로 다른 지역과 미술 현장에서 활동해 온 전문가들과 함께 백남준의 예술이 오늘 날 지니는 의미와 동시대 미술에 남긴 영향을 살펴봅니다.
또한 기술 환경의 변화 속에서 그의 실험정신과 예술적 시도가 동시대의 창작과 전시에 어떠한 질문과 가능성을 제시하고, 그것이 오늘날의 예술적 실천과 어떻게 이어질 수 있는지 논의합니다. 이를 통해 기술 기반 예술의 선구자로서 백남준을 조명하고, 현재 우리가 마주하고 있는 인공지능 시대의 예술을 새롭게 사유하고자 합니다.

Marking the 20th anniversary of Nam June Paik’s passing in 2026, this session revisits his work and artistic legacy at a time when artificial intelligence and advanced technology have become part of everyday life. Paik actively embraced the new technological media of his era, including video and telecommunications, expanding the forms and expressive territory of art while offering a new perspective on the relationships among technology, humanity, and society.
In this session, experts active in different regions and art scenes come together to examine the significance of Paik’s art in the present. The session also discusses what questions and possibilities his experimental spirit and artistic endeavors pose for creation and exhibition today, amid a changing technological environment. In illuminating Nam June Paik as a pioneer of technology-based art, it seeks at the same time to rethink art in the age of artificial intelligence that we now face.
