The artificial intelligence boom is creating demand for computing power. Data centers are springing up across the U.S.— and opposition is growing.
Many U.S. residents say their health problems are being caused by new data centers being built in their neighborhoods. But President Trump only sees the potential economic benefits of these large-scale projects. Not all elected officials agree with him, including Democratic House Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who is sounding the alarm on the environmental impact — and she's not the only one. This debate is having a significant effect on the upcoming US midterm elections, deepening the divide between supporters and opponents. There is no doubt that the AI boom will change the US, but at what cost? A report by Ines Pohl.
