If your car overheats and blows a head gasket, the extreme temperatures will physically warp and bend the solid aluminum cylinder head! If you just install a new gasket without fixing the metal, the engine will instantly leak and blow up again.
To fix this properly, mechanics send the engine block to a machine shop.
