"I talked to Scott Roth five years ago" | New import Dakota Mathias, 15,000km from home

"I talked to Scott Roth five years ago."

Dakota Mathias has moved his family more than 15,000km from Indianapolis to Hobart, Tasmania. The conversation that started it happened five years ago, when Scott Roth was still building this thing from scratch.

Dakota talks about what brought him here — the culture and the atmosphere he ran into as an opponent last season, which he reckons is second to none. He's honest about the injury that ended his year early, what he brings as a shooter who moves without the ball, and what a Roth session actually feels like: competitive, high energy, black and white. Do your job.

His wife Gabby is with him. She talks about bringing two little boys across the world, and about the partners' group chat that went to work before the family had even landed — childcare, grocery runs, which nappies to buy. Her word for it: an amazing group of women who dropped everything to help.

And Darren Smith, our GM of Basketball Operations, explains why Dakota has been on the list for years, how his shooting fits alongside Taran Armstrong, where Bryce Hamilton is at, how we'll manage Will Magnay's load, what the Blitz is for.

Welcome to Tasmania, Mathias family.
