What remains of one's origins when life takes you to a new place?
In the 1990s, thousands of Romanians left home looking for work elsewhere. As villages emptied, grandparents raised children, and entire communities slowly drifted apart.
Many of them were young people who left for Western Europe, like Italy. Now some question if they will ever return to where they grew up. Others say they will never go back.
