The Palestinian National Authority's president, Mahmoud Abbas, has postponed a legislative election that would be its first in 20 years. Abbas says it will now be held in September 2027.
"I do believe that Palestinians should be able to choose their own representatives," says Diana Buttu, a former adviser to the negotiating team of the Palestine Liberation Organization, decrying the decision. "It’s time for [Abbas] to really step down, to hand over leadership to a brand-new generation."
