로봇도 이제 사람이 조종하는 시대에서 스스로 판단하는 시대로 넘어가고 있다.
아카펠라처럼 반주가 사라지면 자유가 커지는 만큼 스스로 책임져야 할 것도 많아진다.
진정한 자율로봇은 주변을 인식하고, 판단하고, 움직이며, 오류까지 스스로 바로잡아야 한다.
무반주 합창의 ‘피치 드리프트’처럼 로봇도 움직임의 작은 오차가 쌓이기 때문에 위치를 계속 보정해야 한다.
중국의 휴머노이드 지능화 기준도 감지·인지, 의사결정·학습, 실행·수행, 협업·상호작용을 자율성의 핵심으로 본다.
지난 4월 베이징 휴머노이드 하프마라톤에서는 원격조종 로봇보다 느린 자율주행 로봇이 우승했다.
중국은 이제 단순히 얼마나 빨리 달리는가보다 로봇이 얼마나 스스로 수행하는가를 평가하기 시작했다.
하지만 인간보다 빨리 달리는 로봇이 빨래를 잘 개는 것은 아니다. 낯선 환경에서 물건을 다루고 예외 상황에 대응하는 능력은 또 다른 문제다.
로봇의 자율성은 사람을 완전히 배제하는 것이 아니라, 스스로 한계를 알고 위험할 때 멈추며 필요하면 도움을 요청하는 능력까지 포함한다.
결국 사람의 역할도 직접 조종에서 벗어나 무엇을 맡기고 언제 개입하며 누가 책임질지를 결정하는 방향으로 바뀌고 있다.

Robots Now Compete on What Happens ‘After the Command’

Robots, too, are moving from an era of human operation to one of independent judgment.
As with a cappella, when the accompaniment disappears, freedom grows, and so does the responsibility you must carry yourself.
A truly autonomous robot has to perceive its surroundings, make decisions, move, and even correct its own errors.
Just as unaccompanied choirs suffer from ‘pitch drift’, small errors in a robot's movements accumulate, so it must keep recalibrating its position.
China's standards for humanoid intelligence likewise treat perception and cognition, decision-making and learning, execution and performance, and collaboration and interaction as the core of autonomy.
At the Beijing Humanoid Half Marathon this past April, an autonomous robot won even though it was slower than the remote-controlled robots.
China has begun evaluating not just how fast a robot runs, but how much it can do on its own.
Still, a robot that runs faster than a human won't necessarily fold laundry well. Handling objects in unfamiliar environments and responding to unexpected situations is another matter entirely.
Robot autonomy doesn't mean shutting humans out completely. It includes the ability to recognize its own limits, stop when things get dangerous, and ask for help when needed.
In the end, the human role is shifting away from direct control and toward deciding what to delegate, when to intervene, and who bears responsibility.
