What does Switzerland’s neutrality vote mean for NATO and Russia? | DW News

Swiss voters have rejected a proposal to impose stricter rules on the country’s neutrality. The initiative would have curtailed cooperation with military alliances such as NATO and limited Switzerland’s ability to impose sanctions on countries at war. Switzerland adopted many EU sanctions against Russia after its invasion of Ukraine.

So what does the result tell us about Swiss attitudes to neutrality, and how much freedom does the government now have to respond to future conflicts? DW speaks to political scientist Oliver Strijbis of Franklin University Switzerland.
