Bill Gates issues grave warning as AI development accelerates, urges strict regulation

Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates is calling for tighter regulation of artificial intelligence, warning that the technology is unlike anything humanity has encountered before.

Gates says governments and law enforcement agencies should help establish mandatory safeguards, stating that industry self-regulation is insufficient.

He also notes that artificial intelligence could eventually surpass human intelligence.

Mr Gates cautions that, in the wrong hands, AI could become powerful enough to contribute to events resulting in up to a ‘billion deaths'.
