Iceland has said no to restarting negotiations to join the European Union. But what does that really tell us about the state of play in Europe?
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has said enlargement is a geopolitical necessity, but it has now been 13 years since a country last joined the Union – the longest period without a new member in its history.
To discuss the future of EU enlargement, on this edition of The Agenda, Juliet Mann is joined by Adam Fishwick from the Faculty of Political Science at the University of Iceland; former member of the European Parliament Andrew Duff; Pieter Cleppe, Editor-in-Chief of BrusselsReport.eu; and EU political analyst Klaus Jürgens.
