It wasn’t that long ago that companies were making leaderboards that showed off just how awesome their employees were based entirely on how many AI tokens they could burn through.
One of the main culprits behind that has had a hard time undoing that culture. Amazon’s now had to issue several memos to their engineers to stop just wasting their tokens on meaningless AI nonsense. The memo talks about how AI volume isn’t the mark of a good engineer, but delivering value is and they’re not the same thing.
