What if the greatest distance we face is not found on a map, but within our own minds?
Growing up in Mộc Châu, a mountainous town in northwestern Vietnam, Trần Phương Vy once believed that the greatest opportunities belonged to those born in major cities, where prestigious schools, influential platforms, and greater resources seemed to exist. But she came to realize that the most dangerous distance is not the mountain road between Mộc Châu and Hanoi—it is the distance between “I wish I could” and “I will try.”
In an age when technology has made knowledge more accessible than ever, this talk asks an important question: if talent can emerge anywhere, why is opportunity still so unevenly distributed?
Drawing from her hometown and her own journey as a student, Phương Vy explores the power of confidence, education, technology, and platforms that can help young people from less-connected communities build roads toward opportunities of their own.
Where you are born may give you roots, but it should never define the limits of your future. Mộc Châu is more than the hometown Trần Phương Vy calls home; it is also the place that shaped the way she sees opportunity, distance, and the roads ahead.
Growing up in the mountains of northwestern Vietnam, Vy has developed a strong interest in education, technology, and the opportunities available to young people living far from major urban centers. Her experiences in her hometown have led her to question the invisible limitations people sometimes place on themselves simply because of where they begin.
Vy believes that talent can emerge anywhere, and that a small starting point does not have to lead to a small future. To her, everyone has the ability to build a road of their own—if they remain curious enough to look beyond the boundaries around them and courageous enough to take the first step.
