Burnham government playing to voter base risks relationship with Israel

News24 contributor Adrian Hayes says the Burnham government is “putting the nation’s safety at risk” by playing to its voter base, which includes a large Muslim community as tensions with Israel rise.

“No matter the rights and wrongs of Israel and Palestine, I think there’s many people in the UK who are no supporter of Hamas but are no supporter of the Netanyahu government either,” Mr Hayes told News24 host Steve Price.

“When you look at the Labour government, it’s a criticism you can level at all politicians; they are playing to their voter base, the large Muslim block and also, critically, to their backbenchers.

“It’s putting the nation's safety at risk for the sake of politics, which I don’t think many people find acceptable.”
