[CLEAN OLLE] 사람들이 몰려왔는데 올레길은 오히려 더 깨끗해졌다 As More People Arrived, the Olle Trail Grew Even Cleaner

(사)제주올레를 대표하는 환경 캠페인 ‘클린올레’​는 2009년 시작되었습니다.

클린올레는 제주올레 길을 걸으며 길 위의 쓰레기를 줍는 환경정화 활동입니다.
“내가 만든 쓰레기는 되가져가고, 남이 버린 쓰레기도 주워온다.”
내 뒤를 이어 이 길을 걷는 사람도 아름다운 제주의 자연을 그대로 만날 수 있도록
배려하는 올레꾼들의 작은 실천입니다.

제주올레 길을 걷는 사람들이 많아지면서 길이 지나는 마을에서는
올레꾼들이 버리고 가는 쓰레기에 대한 불만도 생겨났습니다.
하지만 클린올레가 시작되고 길은 눈에 띄게 깨끗해졌습니다.
그리고 올레꾼을 바라보는 마을 주민들의 시선도 조금씩 달라졌습니다.
마을에 쓰레기를 버리고 가는 사람이 아니라,
우리 마을의 길을 함께 깨끗하게 만들어주는 고마운 사람들로 말이죠.

클린올레에 참여하는 올레꾼들의 마음은 단순합니다.
“이렇게 좋은 올레길을 다음에 걷는 사람에게도 깨끗하고 아름다운 모습으로 보여주고 싶다.”

하지만 클린올레는 생각보다 쉽지 않습니다.
제주올레 길 한 코스를 걷는 것만으로도 쉽지 않은데,
걷는 내내 허리를 굽혀 쓰레기를 줍고 다시 걷는 일을 반복해야 하기 때문입니다.
그래서 제주올레는 지금도 묵묵히 클린올레에 참여해 주시는 모든 올레꾼들에게
늘 감사한 마음을 가지고 있습니다.

제주에서 시작된 클린올레는 이제 자매의 길인 규슈올레, 미야기올레, 몽골올레로도 이어지고 있습니다.
또한 국내 여러 트레일의 환경정화 활동에도 영향을 주며
걷는 사람이 길을 지키는 문화를 만들어가고 있습니다.

이번 영상에는 제주올레의 클린올레를 간접적으로 체험해 볼 수 있는 이야기를 담았습니다.

"Clean Olle," the flagship environmental campaign of Jeju Olle Association, began back in 2009.

Clean Olle is a litter-pickup activity where walkers gather trash along the Jeju Olle Trail.
Its guiding principle is simple: "Take your own trash back, and pick up the trash left by others."
It is a thoughtful action by trail walkers to ensure that those who follow can experience Jeju’s beautiful nature just as it is.

As the Jeju Olle Trail grew in popularity, local residents in villages along the route naturally voiced concerns about the litter left behind.
However, after Clean Olle took root, the trail became visibly cleaner.
The way locals viewed the walkers began to change as well.
Instead of seeing visitors who leave trash behind, they started seeing thankful partners who help keep their village paths clean.

The heart behind those who join Clean Olle is wonderfully straightforward:
"I want to keep this wonderful trail clean and beautiful for the next person who walks it.“

Of course, participating in Clean Olle is no small effort.
Walking a full course of the Jeju Olle Trail is challenging on its own, and doing so while constantly bending over to pick up trash requires real dedication.
That is why Jeju Olle Association remains deeply grateful to all the walkers who quietly continue to lend a hand.

What started in Jeju has now spread to sister trails like Kyushu Olle, Miyagi Olle, and Mongolia Olle. It is also inspiring cleanup efforts across various domestic trails, building a culture where walkers naturally protect the paths they treasure.
