Machine Compresses a Shipping Container of Styrofoam Down to a 4x4 Pallet - A 90:1 Volume Reduction

When working in IT, you encounter a lot of styrofoam. Everything is packed in it. But, once you receive your goods, where does all that styrofoam go?

In Maryland, the answer is to a landfill, which didn’t sit right with Joe Biondo, Enterprise IT Director of Research Computing, and Fred Thomsen, Director of Krieger Information Technology at the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences. Upon discovering that the nearest styrofoam recycling center was states away, Biondo and Thomsen took matters into their own hands, doing research and finding a solution. The GREENMAX foam densifier recycler was the answer and is now breaking down styrofoam to be reused, keeping it out of landfills.
