What They Never Taught Us | Aoyu William Wang | TEDxLANNA Intl School Youth

In this compelling and deeply personal talk, William reflects on his experience of racism and bullying as an international student in Canada, using it to question how schools teach, or fail to teach, global understanding. He argues that ignorance and stereotyping are often rooted in narrow, localised curricula that leave students with little knowledge of the wider world. Blending personal stories with a broader critique of education, he calls for schools to move beyond surface-level multiculturalism and embrace truly global learning. Ultimately, his speech is a powerful plea for education that builds empathy, challenges prejudice, and helps students see the person beyond the stereotype. William Wang is a Year 11 student who has studied at Lanna International School since Year 5. Having lived and studied in China, Thailand, and Canada, he brings a broad international perspective to his thinking and speaking. William is very active in the student-led public speaking programme, participating in debate, MUN, and mock trial, and he has a keen interest in technology and business.
