In this thought-provoking and compelling talk, Anita examines the place of international law in the 21st century, questioning whether it delivers justice or merely the appearance of it. Tracing a journey from childhood faith in fairness to a more critical understanding of global politics, she explores how institutions such as the UN, ICC, and ICJ help define moral standards around war crimes and human rights, yet often lack the enforcement needed to hold powerful actors accountable. While acknowledging these flaws, she argues that international law still shapes our collective conscience and can inspire citizens to demand stronger action and a more just world. Anita Bergin is a Year 11 student who has studied at Lanna International School for eight years. She is highly active in the student-led public speaking programme, excelling in debating, MUN, and mock trial, frequently taking on leadership roles. Anita has a keen interest in psychology, sociology, current events, and investigative journalism.
