Can geo-engineering solve climate change? What are the health effects of climate change? And why are poor communities most affected by climate change?
Climate change is often framed as an environmental problem, but human health impacts are already being felt around the world.
In this episode of Future Proof, Dr Miqdad Asaria, Associate Professor in the Department of Health Policy, explores how climate change affects public health, why climate change health inequalities are growing, and what this means for the future of our societies.
From heatwaves, drought and air pollution to respiratory disease and reduced life expectancy, Dr Asaria explains the often-overlooked connection between environmental change and human wellbeing. He examines why poor communities are most affected by climate change, how people experience climate risks differently depending on their jobs, housing and income, and why tackling climate change is also a question of justice and fairness.
In 2026, our Future Proof series goes behind the scenes with some of LSE's sustainability experts to explore what a sustainable and resilient future could look like, and how the social sciences can help us build it.
