For almost a quarter of a century, Romanian dictator Nicolae Ceaușescu plundered his own country to fund his lavish lifestyle, whilst his starving citizens were forced to abandon their own children.
His regime's ban on contraception and abortion created a humanitarian crisis, leaving countless malnourished infants intellectually stunted in overflowing orphanages and condemning others to die from AIDS contracted through infected medical needles.
