A flight from the United Arab Emirates to Israel was diverted to Saudi Arabia after a co-pilot attempted to stab the captain in the cockpit on Wednesday.
The incident caused the aircraft to plummet 17,400 feet in less than two minutes, according to flight tracking data.
Customers and crew foiled the co-pilot’s attempt. The co-pilot was arrested and is being questioned by Saudi authorities, and the captain is in stable condition.
All 174 passengers returned safely to Tel Aviv via a replacement aircraft.
Israel has called the incident "terror attack."
The United Arab Emirates' General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) said Wednesday that an investigation was underway.
Preliminary tracking by Israeli intelligence suggests no direct operational links or communications connecting the suspect to Iran, Hamas, or Hezbollah have been discovered.
