‘They sound authentic’: Focus groups reveal why voters are turning to One Nation

News24 Political Editor Andrew Clennell examines focus group findings suggesting voters are drawn to One Nation because they see Pauline Hanson as authentic and believe the party focuses on key issues rather than political attacks.

“The phenomenon that has become a real feature of politics this year has been the rise of One Nation,” Mr Clennell said.

“Voters told pollsters they were also leaning towards the party because One Nation leader, Pauline Hanson, sounded authentic, whereas Labor and Liberal politicians were cautious with their carefully scripted answers.

“One woman from Queensland said, I never expected to be a One Nation voter, but my opinion has changed over time. They're focused on the top issues and are less worried about sledging the next guy.”
