Why do mechanics use a hole saw on car wheels?! 🛞🔧
If you drive a modern truck or SUV, you might have two-piece factory lug nuts. These use a solid steel core covered by a thin, decorative outer shell. Over time, moisture gets trapped between the layers, causing the metal to rust and expand! When these lug nuts "swell," your standard socket or tire iron will no longer fit over them, making it impossible to change a flat tire!
Instead of fighting the stripped metal, mechanics use a standard hole saw attachment on a power drill. By spinning the saw directly over the swollen lug nut, it quickly carves away the damaged outer shell! Once the cap is removed, the mechanic can use a smaller socket on the solid steel core underneath to safely remove the wheel!
