In 2006, Rick and Ruth Steven lost their son Spencer at just seven months old to Spinal Muscular Atrophy. Instead of letting grief win, they turned it into one of the most powerful traditions in Perth Heat history.
This January 9th, 2027, at NSR Hire Ballpark, Team Spencer takes the field for its 20th year — Perth Heat vs. Sydney Blue Sox — celebrating two decades of jerseys, auctions, awareness, and a community that refuses to let one little boy's story be forgotten.
