Add competition, energy and fun to practice with the Slalom Dribbling Competition, a team dribbling race that builds close control on both feet and finishes with a shot on goal. Former FC Cincinnati midfielder Corben Bone explains how it works.
In this FC Cincinnati Soccer Drills episode, presented by Penn Station East Coast Subs, Corben, FC Cincinnati's Director of Soccer in the Community, runs the Slalom Dribbling Competition at TQL Stadium. Two teams race head-to-head through a slalom of cones, dribble around the final cone and shoot on a mini goal. The first one to score wins. Three progressions help players develop both their strong foot and their weak foot.
⚽ EQUIPMENT
• 9 small cones
• 1 mini goal
• Soccer balls
📋 HOW TO PLAY
1. Split players into two teams and set up a slalom course.
2. Players dribble through the cones, around the final cone and toward goal.
3. Score in the mini goal before the next player goes. The first team to finish wins.
Play three rounds:
Round 1: Right foot only
Round 2: Left foot only
Round 3: Both feet, as fast as you can
🎯 COACHING POINTS
• Close control: Use small touches to get through the cones.
• Balance: Stay balanced and in control around each cone.
• Two-footed: Skills on both feet are an advantage in soccer, whether it's your strong foot or your weak foot.
