One day, I want to build a whole building.
For now,
I’m just drawing little by little
on discarded paper.

When I visited Gyeongbokgung Palace,
I saw the traditional Dancheong patterns
and thought,
“I really want to work with that someday.”

Dancheong isn’t just decorative painting.
It originally started as a way to protect wooden buildings
from rain, wind, and insects.
Over time, the five traditional colors
(blue, red, yellow, white, and black)
were added, creating something both solemn and vibrant.

It’s practical,
but it also feels a bit like Korea’s own version of Art Deco.

So this time,
I shredded discarded paper
and turned it into pulp in the five Dancheong colors.

The paper may not fully capture
the depth of traditional pigments,
but through upcycling,
I’m exploring the endless possibilities
of what discarded paper can become.

I’m curious to see how it will turn out.

Someday, I hope to make something much bigger —
maybe even build a structure
out of discarded paper.
