How Coraline’s Animators Made the Shower “Flow” 😳 | Behind the Scenes

Seeing how Coraline’s animators created this shower effect makes me appreciate the scene even more. In Coraline (2009), you watch the strange yellow stream come out of the showerhead and immediately understand what’s happening. Behind the scenes, that flowing movement becomes a collection of carefully made physical pieces.

The demonstration lets you see those pieces up close before the clip returns to the finished animation. Suddenly, a moment that passes in seconds gives you a reason to pause and look at everything. The shape of the stream, the splashes, and Coraline’s reaction all have to work together.

I love seeing the practical work behind stop motion. Learning how an effect was made gives me something new to notice on the next watch. This little shower scene is a perfect example of how much attention goes into details we can easily take for granted.
