It was his first Grand Slam and only one won by someone from Mexico. #Osuna passed at age 30 when he was tragically killed in a plane crash. And, on September 10, 1960, in one of the most famous #Olympics events -- the #marathon in #Rome -- #AbebeBikila of #Ethiopia set a #WorldRecord by running barefoot through the streets. It was the first medal not only for #Abebe 's country, but for all of Sub-Saharan #Africa. #Bikila passed at age 41 from complications stemming from a car accident.
D. A trailblazer. On September 11, 1988, #DougWilliams of the Washington #Redskins (now known as the #Commanders) beat the #Steelers in his first game since winning #SuperBowl XXII and being named #MVP -- the first #AfricanAmerican #quarterback in the history of the #NFL to start a Super Bowl.
E. On September 13, 1998, one of the most iconic #NFL duos, #JohnElway and #TerrellDavis, beat the #Cowboys. Both put up stellar performances en route to winning the #SuperBowl that year and Davis being named #MVP.
F. Look away #JoeMontana and #NotreDame fans. On September 9, 1978, #Montana and the #FightingIrish suffered one of the biggest upsets in school and #collegefootball history, with Joe having one of his worst games in both #NCAAfootball and the #NFL. An unranked #Mizzou beat No. 5 Notre Dame 3-0 on the road in #SouthBend.
