Holland made it four or five rounds deep into the casting process for the role of Finn—which eventually went to John Boyega—when he was asked to do a scene alongside a reader acting as a droid. Holland was delivering intense dramatic lines like "We gotta get back to the ship!", but every time he spoke, the reader earnestly replied with straight-faced robot noises like "bleep, bloop bloop, bleep bloop". Holland caught a massive case of the giggles and couldn't stop laughing at how ridiculous it sounded. He admitted he felt terrible because the reader was trying so hard to be a convincing android, but his uncontrollable fit of laughter ultimately ruined the audition and cost him the part.
