News24 contributor Sophie Elsworth warns Prime Minister Andy Burnham’s call for a slavery apology could trigger demands for reparations, creating major complications for the Commonwealth and King Charles III.
“This just opens a giant can of worms for the Commonwealth. Incredibly awkward for King Charles, who we know is in the Caribbean at the moment,” Ms Elsworth told News24 host Chris Kenny.
“Andy Burnham needs to realise that when he writes these columns… or makes these statements, they have huge ramifications, and if the UK do say sorry, the next thing they're going to want is reparations.
“This will not end, and I think he's made a mistake going down this road.”
