남도해양열차타고 새로 생긴 목포-보성선 기차여행 Riding the New Mokpo–Boseong Line on the Korea S-Train | 기차여행 4K

2025년 말, 공사 착수 이후 20년이 넘은 목포–보성선이 마침내 개통했다. 언제 한 번 타보나 생각만 하다가, 마침 인근을 방문할 일정이 생겨 이용해 보았다. 평일 오후였지만 출발역인 목포역에서는 예상보다 많은 승객이 승차했다. 다음 역인 영암역에서는 승·하차하는 승객이 없었다.

그다음 해남역은 외딴 곳에 위치한 역이라 이용객이 없을 것으로 예상했으나, 몇 명의 승객이 타고 내리는 모습이 보였다. 강진역과 전남장흥역은 읍내와 가까운 입지 덕분인지 다른 역들에 비해 비교적 승객이 많았고, 신보성역과 득량역에서는 이용객 수가 적었다. 영상 속 마지막역인 순천역에서는 진주·창원·부산 방향으로 이동하려는 승객들이 다수 승차했다.

목포–보성선은 신설 노선인 만큼 선로가 높은 구간이 많아 창밖 풍경을 감상하는 재미가 있었고, 그동안 철도로 접근하기 어려웠던 지역을 연결한다는 점에서 의미가 크다고 느꼈다. 다만 수도권이나 충청권에서 한 번에 접근할 수 있는 직결 노선이 없어, 당분간은 이용객이 제한적일 수밖에 없겠다는 생각도 들었다.

2026.01.30~31 겨울 Winter

At the end of 2025, the Mokpo–Boseong Line, which had been under construction for more than 20 years, finally opened. I had been meaning to ride it someday, and when I happened to have a chance to visit the area, I decided to give it a try. Although it was a weekday afternoon, more passengers boarded than expected at Mokpo Station, the departure point. At the next station, Yeongam, there were no passengers getting on or off.

Haenam Station, located in a rather remote area, was one where I expected no activity, but to my surprise, a few passengers boarded and disembarked. Gangjin Station and Jangheung Station in South Jeolla Province had noticeably more passengers, likely due to their proximity to town centers, while Sinboseong and Deukryang stations saw relatively little traffic. At Suncheon Station, the final station shown in the video, many passengers boarded trains bound for Jinju, Changwon, and Busan.

As a newly opened line, much of the track runs at an elevated height, making the journey visually enjoyable. It was also meaningful in that it connects regions that had previously been inaccessible by rail. However, with no direct train services from the Seoul metropolitan area or the Chungcheong region, it seems inevitable that ridership will remain limited for the time being.
