Could my kids actually lose their Korean citizenship?! 😳

I was having my morning coffee when I came across a CNA documentary about multicultural children in South Korea who discovered that they had unknowingly lost their Korean nationality—sometimes YEARS earlier.

As an American mom with Korean-American twins who were born and raised in Korea, I immediately had questions. 😂 So I started investigating Korea’s Nationality Act Article 15 (국적법 제15조) and found a surprisingly complicated legal gap affecting some multicultural families.

In this video, I look into why some children can legally hold two nationalities from birth while others may lose their Korean nationality when a parent later obtains foreign citizenship for them, why some families were reportedly given incorrect or confusing information, and what can happen when the government eventually discovers the second citizenship.

And yes… I also had to figure out whether MY kids were affected. 😭

Article 15 states that a Korean national who voluntarily acquires a foreign nationality loses Korean nationality at the time that foreign nationality is acquired.
