[ Wonhyoam Hermitage, Cheonseongsan ] [260916]
💬 Deep in Cheonseongsan Mountain lies Wonhyoam Hermitage, a place that bears the name of the great Buddhist monk Wonhyo.
It is said to have been founded by Wonhyo in 646, during the reign of Queen Seondeok of the Silla Kingdom.
An old story about Wonhyo has long been passed down here.
According to the legend, one thousand practitioners received his teachings. Wonhyo taught them the Avatamsaka Sutra, and all of them are said to have attained enlightenment.
Even after more than a thousand years, the story of Wonhyo still lives on in this mountain, which came to be known as Cheonseongsan, “the Mountain of a Thousand Saints.”
