Yakbong Seo Seong (藥峯 徐渻, 1558–1631) served as a governor of five provinces and a minister of three government boards. He accompanied the king during the Japanese invasions of Korea, endured eleven years of exile during the reign of King Gwanghaegun, and later survived the turmoil of the Yi Gwal Rebellion and the First Manchu Invasion.

Yet the deepest foundation of his life was not his political career.

It was his mother, Lady Yi of Goseong, who lost her husband at a young age and raised her son alone despite losing her eyesight.
