Brown University hosted a day of science, stories and festschrift on Saturday, June 6, 2026 in honor of John P. Donoghue, Ph.D. '79, Henry Merritt Wriston Professor of Neuroscience and Professor of Engineering. Donoghue is founder of BrainGate and a pioneer of brain-computer interface technologies, and also founded the Brown Institute for Brain Science (now the Carney Institute for Brain Science.)
The Afternoon Session included tributes by colleagues Diane Lipscombe, Ph.D.; Michael Black, Ph.D. (video); Geoffrey Ling, M.D., Ph.D., D.Sci (hon); Steven Rasmussen '74, MMS '77, M.D. '77; Arto Nurmikko, Ph.D.; P. Hunter Peckham, Ph.D., Jennifer French, MBA.; and Leigh Hochberg '90, M.D., Ph.D.
The celebration concluded with remarks by John Donoghue, Ph.D. '79.
