Brown University hosted a day of science, stories and festschrift on Saturday, June 6, 2026 in honor of John P. Donoghue, Ph.D. '79, Henry Merritt Wriston Professor of Neuroscience and Professor of Engineering. Donoghue is founder of BrainGate and a pioneer of brain-computer interface technologies, and also founded the Brown Institute for Brain Science (now the Carney Institute for Brain Science.)
The Morning Session included welcome remarks by Leigh Hochberg '90, M.D., Ph.D. and President Christina Paxson, Ph.D.
This session also included tributes by former trainees: Mustafa Sahin ’88, M.D., Ph.D.; Kimberle Jacobs, Ph.D. ’93 (video); Nicole Ullrich ’90, M.D., Ph.D.; Tejal Desai ’94, Ph.D.; Nicholas Hatsopoulos, Ph.D.; Wilson Truccolo, Ph.D.; Carlos Vargas-Irwin ’02, Ph.D. ’10; and Mijail Serruya ’96, Ph.D. ’03, M.D. ’05.
